Rural Rugby At Its Best
In the Great Kei region, rugby runs deep in the veins but sport in schools has largely died over the past few years. Not only is the unbelievable talent being lost but the region continues to be plagued by high drop out rates in schools, teenage pregnancies and drug & alcohol abuse. We believe by restoring rugby in our schools we can tackle these challenges head on. Through rugby's values, we are instilling discipline, hard work and resilience into these young learners who will go on to become the future leaders we need for a brighter future.
High dropout rates in schools, teenage pregnancies and drug & alcohol abuse are persistent challenges in the Great Kei. Participation through sport and especially rugby teaches discipline, hard work, resilience and keeps children in school and away from bad influences.
Hope is often lost when growing up in rural and underprivileged areas. The Great Kei Schools Rugby Tournament illustrates to these young learners what is possible if you are willing to work hard and strive for something greater.
Through our extended engagement with schools, we are striving to inspire the growth of future leaders. These leaders are essential in building a brighter future for the communities of Great Kei.
An abundance of talent exists in the Great Kei region but it needs the opportunity to be seen and to be developed. The Great Kei Tournament is bringing this talent to the world to see and working with schools to develop the coaches needed for this talent to grow.
